Silent City II Dortmund
Theatrical Expedition
The viewer, the visitor, is at the center of the theater produced for 10 rooms. The SILENT CITY project is a contemplative adventure, the scene of an expedition through various theater spaces that shows us that silence has long been made and at the same time tries to give it back to us for a while. Visitors traverse two rooms of the "silent city" to encounter actors, dancers, musicians, and artists who create theatrical and silent situations, or to an installation in an abandoned room that particularly embodies the unknown silence. Experiment with closed stories that have a beginning and an end, or with more abstract and meditative images, such as a very slow dance or only audible music. SILENT CITY – Version II is an expedition through staged spaces that shows how distant silence has become to us and at the same time tries to give it back to us for a while. Every hour, six visitors are granted access to the labyrinth of the "Silent City." There they encounter an international ensemble of artists who create silent, theatrical moments and deserted room installations that particularly embody silence. Whether unpleasant, peaceful, threatening, or redeeming: When we find it, silence always resonates within us.
